He's now an established face on the comedy circuit, a regular on both Radio 4's Now Show and Radio 2's It's Been A Bad Week, and star of his own Radio 4 series Mitch Benn's Crimes Against Music, which he performed with his regular backing band, The Distractions (Kirsty Newton on bass and keyboards and Tash Baylis on drums and percussion).
He has performed hour-long shows at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe on several occasions.

Our MC for the evening is Barry from Watford's. His full name is Barry St Michael, an 81 year old who lives in a small block of flats in Watford. He lives there with wife Margaret St Michael , they have a son called David and two grandchildren. Barry and Margaret have an up and down relationship that has involved some temporary separations. One of which was caused by Barry commenting to Margaret that she had a slow eye and wobbly face. Another was when Margaret ran off with a Pakistani gentleman from a building society.
Barry from Watford is good friends with his neighbours in the block of flats where he lives. One of those friends is Simon Clancy who Barry will often ask to look after his allotment while he's away. Simon manages to do a good job as he's often able to get Barry's plums to swell to a really good size on his return. Another neighbour is Jean Nugent who set Barry up on a "date" with a friend called Irene during a separation with Margaret. There was a problem with the date where Irene had too many radishes from the salad bar and "blew off". This disgusted Barry especially when she raised herself up on one hand and let another one go.
Many of you will recognise Barry from TV and Radio - he regularly appears on the Steve Wright show on Radio 2.
